ROWNI is a national network formalized as a non-profit organization that unites diverse realities of women within the Roma community across Italy. Our network was established to empower Roma women, who often face discrimination not only due to their gender but also because of their ethnic identity. ROWNI is dedicated to promoting the social, political, and cultural inclusion of Roma women, aiming to integrate them into various sectors of society.
Mission:
Our mission is to facilitate the integration of Roma women into the labor market and to implement projects that enhance their inclusion in Italian and European society. We actively combat prejudice and discrimination through grassroots actions, while respecting cultural identities and upholding the fundamental values of dignity and civility.
Objectives:
– Empowerment: We strive to create alternative role models for Roma women, providing stable reference points for Roma girls and women in Italy. We believe in their right to pursue empowering individual paths and offer passionate, competent support to help them take control of their futures.
– Social Inclusion:ROWNI aims to increase access to rights for Roma and Sinti women, contributing to the development of an inclusive society that addresses poverty, particularly among women.
– Education and Culture: We are committed to improving the availability and quality of both formal and informal education and cultural opportunities for Roma women.
– Health and Safety:Our organization works to enhance the quality of health, environmental conditions, and safety for the Roma and Sinti communities, protecting women and children from abuse.
– Transparency and Funding:We prioritize transparency in financial statements and are dedicated to securing more funding through proper planning and resource allocation.
Statute and Governance:
ROWNI operates as a voluntary association comprised of organizations, initiatives, and individuals who respect the principles of our network. We aim to support the advancement of Roma and Sinti communities by defining and promoting the active role of Roma and Sinti women through public actions and organized initiatives within the community.

– Promoting political and civil participation that respects the rights of women and minorities, fostering an environment of justice and tolerance.
– Supporting the right to education and information relevant to future employment opportunities for Roma and Sinti individuals.
– Contributing to the implementation of the National Strategy for the Inclusion of Roma and Sinti, providing concrete solutions for issues related to housing, healthcare, employment, education, and legal status.

ROWNI is excited to announce the first broader meeting of the network, highlighting the various realities of Romni women and showcasing best practices aligned with the European strategy for inclusion planned for 2014 to 2020.
